Family traditions/Social issuses

One family tradition that occurs in my family is that when someone is in a time of need, we all come together to help that family member. Social issues are very important to me because as a African — American male my life and livelihood are at risk. For example, one evening I went out to eat with some of my friends on the football team and got racially profiled. I had ordered a margarita , and then the waiter ask me for my id, I gave it to her, and she automatically assumed it was fake. I told her it wasn’t fake and that I was from Florida, then she proceeded to cause a scene and get her manager then we just decided to leave and eat somewhere else. This is why social issues are so important to talk about because there are thousands of horrible events that happen to multiple African American in the United States. It can happen to any African American, you never know where and when it can happen. I didn’t expect being racially profiled at a restaurant especially not from the waiter. So it’s extremely important to make sure that the topic of social issues are talked about and taught to the younger generation, because I have a younger sister and I wouldn’t want her to go through the things that social media shows us, the things that are happening around the world. Based off of the family dynamics portrayed through social media I have certain expectations of how my family should act . For example, I have noticed how some families host different family events such as game night to connect and spend time with each other. That being said, I try to orchestrate game nights at my house so that I can connect and end with my family members. It doesn’t matter how far away a family member is, you could still connect with them through social media. While this pandemic is going on I still communicate with my family members everyday even though i’m in New York and they are all the way in Florida. This pandemic has made me and my family stronger, by having us be even closer to one another instead of everyone being all over the place. Social media has had no impact on me nor my family, we are very social, we don’t let things like social media and other things prevent us from communicating with one another. I say this because my mother won’t allow social media to rip us from each other. She makes sure that we are always in contact with each other and I usually get a slap in the head if I’m not paying her any attention. I know that social media is a big part of our lives nowadays but in my family, the family is the biggest part because life is short and we must maximize every opportunity we have with them.
